Resetting Your 7 Days To Die Server

Before performing any reset, it is absolutely essential to create a complete backup of your server files. Once you delete the world data, it cannot be recovered. Refer to our guide on "How to Back Up Your 7 Days To Die Server" if you need assistance with this step.

This method involves manually deleting specific folders and files from your server directory.

Stop Your 7 Days To Die Server:

This is the most critical step. Ensure your server is completely shut down before proceeding. Running the server while deleting files can lead to data corruption.

Locate Your Server Directory:

Navigate to where your 7 Days To Die dedicated server is installed.

The default path is often C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\7 Days To Die Dedicated Server.

Delete World Save Data:

Inside your server's root directory, find the Data folder.

Inside Data, you'll find a Worlds folder.

Open the Worlds folder. Here, you will see subfolders named after the world types (e.g., Navezgane, Random Gen) and potentially custom world names if you've used a specific seed.

Identify the world you want to reset. For example, if your server is running a Random Gen world with the save name MyWorld, you would look for Data\\Worlds\\Random Gen\\MyWorld.

Delete the entire folder corresponding to your active world save. For example, delete the MyWorld folder.

Important: Do NOT delete the Navezgane or Random Gen folders themselves, only the specific save folders within them.

Delete Player Data:

If you want a completely fresh start where players lose all their inventory, level, and skill progress, you'll also need to delete player data.

This data is usually stored within the world save folder you just deleted. If you only deleted the world folder, player data associated with that world is gone.

However, sometimes player data might persist in other locations, especially if you've used certain mods or older server versions. If you want to be absolutely sure, you might look for a Players folder within your main server directory, but this is less common for full world resets. Deleting the world save is usually sufficient.

Reset Server Configuration Files:

If you want to revert all server settings to their default values (e.g., difficulty, day length, drop rates), you can delete or rename serverconfig.xml and serveradmin.xml.

These files are typically located directly in your server's root directory.

Start Your 7 Days To Die Server:

Once you've deleted the necessary files/folders, start your server.

If you deleted the world save, the server will generate a brand new world based on the settings in your serverconfig.xml (including the world seed and world generation type).

If you also reset serverconfig.xml, it will use default settings. Remember to accept the EULA again if prompted.
