How to setup and install WorldGuard

WorldGuard is a powerful plugin that allows server administrators to protect and manage regions on their servers. In this tutorial, we'll go through how to set up and install WorldGuard on your Minecraft server.

Your server needs to support Bukkit/Spigot plugins for this to work!

Installing WorldGuard & WorldEdit

Downloading the plugin is the first step in setting up WorldGuard. Both of the plugins can be downloaded from the Bukkit page.

Note: WorldEdit is a dependency plugin for WorldGuard.

Navigate to the “File Manager”.

Upload the downloaded plugins into the “plugins” folder.

After uploading the plugins, the server must be restarted so the plugins can start.

Using WorldGuard

We will learn how to use WorldGuard to protect a specific region like the player’s spawn point, lobby etc.

First, we will need to define the first and second positions. To do that, we can use the //wand command to obtain the WorldEdit wand tool (wooden axe).

Select the first position by left-clicking at a corner of your region. Similarly, select the second position by right-clicking at the opposite side and height of the region.

The area higher than that red wool is unprotected.

Once you have selected the region(s), use the command /region define [region name] to register the region as a protected region.

By default, players will not be able to destroy or build in the protected region. In order to reallow the players to build in the area, use the following command /rg flag [region name] build allow.

You can check all the rules that you can use in a region here.
