How to Turn on Keep Inventory in Minecraft Server

Turning on keep inventory in your Minecraft server means players won't lose their items when they die. Who has not lost their items while in The End dimension or while exploring your Minecraft world?

This feature makes gameplay less frustrating by letting everyone keep their valuable items, tools, armor, experience points, and resources. In this guide, we'll show you how to easily enable the keep inventory feature quickly so you can have a more forgiving Minecraft experience.

Make Sure You Are OPed



OP grants you operator status on the server, allowing you to run any command in-game chat, including the keep inventory command.

Go to the console of your server.


You will find a chat window at the bottom of the console.


Enter the following command op yourusername

Activate cheats commands.
Press Enter

You will get a confirmation message letting you know that you got OP.

Using The Keep Inventory Command on Minecraft Java Edition



You can do this through the console or in-game, whatever works best for you.

Console:



Go to your server console.

Enter the following command: gamerule keepInventory true

In-game:



Log into your Minecraft server.

Open the chat window by pressing your keyboard's 'T' key, which is the default binding in Java Edition.

Type this command.

Using Keep Inventory On Minecraft Bedrock Edition



Before we proceed:



Turn off your Minecraft server.

Enable cheats under the Startup tab on the panel.

Enable cheats option
Start it your Minecraft server again.


We can now proceed with enabling this gamerule.

Console:



Go to your server console.

Enter this command: gamerule keepInventory true

If done correctly, you will get this message.

In-game:



Log into your server.

Open the chat window.

Type this command.

If done correctly, the game will display this message.

Common Issues



Below are the answers to a few common issues that you might run into when turning on Keep Inventory:

Not able to run the command:



Check that you have the necessary permissions. Double-check that your in-game character is OPed.

Bedrock only: Check that the server has the cheats enabled.

Check that the command is well written.

I am still losing items or experience points:



Restart your server.

Run the /save (Bedrock) or the /save-all (Java) commands to save all changes on the server.

Check that the keep inventory option is enabled by re-running the command.

I want to disable this rule.



If you want to disable the Keep Inventory command, you can type '/gamerule keepInventory false'.
