SCUM Server Settings Explained


Tuning your SCUM server settings can transform gameplay, giving you full control over everything from loot spawns to weather cycles. Whether you're hosting for a tight-knit group or running a large public server, understanding these options is key to shaping the perfect survival experience. SCUM’s server settings are managed via configuration files or a web-based control panel, depending on your host.


General Settings


  • ServerName: The public name of your server.


  • ServerDescription: Description that appears in the server list.


  • ServerPassword: Password required to join the server. Leave blank for public access.


  • MaxPlayers: Maximum number of players allowed simultaneously.


  • ServerBannerUrl: URL of an image displayed as the server banner. However, it is currently not in use.


  • ServerPlaystyle: Defines server type (e.g., PVE or PVP). However, it is currently not in use.


  • WelcomeMessage: Orange Message shown when a player joins the server.


  • MessageOfTheDay: The message sent to all connected players after a specific interval.


  • MessageOfTheDayCooldown: Time interval in minutes between the MessageOfTheDay (MOTD) being sent in the chat.


  • MinServerTickRate / MaxServerTickRate: Controls server update frequency. Modifying the default settings may put your service under more load, and result in poor performance.


  • MaxPing: Maximum ping allowed before not allowing the player to join the server.


  • LogoutTimer: Standard logout delay in seconds.


  • LogoutTimerWhileCaptured / InBunker: Specific logout timers under different conditions in seconds.


  • AllowFirstPerson / ThirdPerson: Enables or disables camera perspectives. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • AllowCrosshair: Toggle to show or hide the aiming reticle. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • AllowVoting: Allows players to vote in certain server events. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • AllowMapScreen: Enable map access for players. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • AllowKillClaiming: Allow BCU drop after a player is killed. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • AllowComa: Enables or disables being knocked out rather instead of being killed immediately.


  • AllowMinesAndTraps: Enable the use of mines and traps. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • AllowSkillGainInSafeZones: Skill leveling inside safe zones. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • AllowEvents: Enable or disable special server events. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • LimitGlobalChat: Limits global chat usage. Set 0 to allow anyone to chat in global chat, and 1 to only allow administrators to chat in global chat.


  • AllowGlobalChat / LocalChat / SquadChat / AdminChat: Chat availability options. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • RustyLocksLogging: Logs interactions with rusty locks.


  • HideKillNotification: Hides kill feed notifications.


  • DisableTimedGifts: Disable gifts given at timed intervals.


  • UseMapBaseBuildingRestriction: Restricts building based on the map.


  • DisableBaseBuilding: Completely disable base building.


  • VotingDuration: Time window for voting.


  • PlayerMinimalVotingInterest / PositiveVotePercentage: Defines voting thresholds.


  • MasterServerUpdateSendInterval: Frequency of update pings to the master server.


  • PartialWipe / GoldWipe / FullWipe: Different wipe options for server resets.


  • FameGainMultiplier: Adjusts how quickly fame is gained.


  • FamePointPenaltyOnDeath / OnKilled / RewardOnKill: Fame point adjustments based on player actions.


  • LogSuicides: Log when players commit suicide. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • EnableSpawnOnGround: Allows spawning on the ground instead of in beds/shelters. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • DeleteInactiveUsers: Deletes data of inactive users. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • DaysSinceLastLoginToBecomeInactive: Time in days until a user is considered inactive.


  • DeleteBannedUsers: Deletes banned users' data. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • MaximumTimeForChestsInForbiddenZones: How long chests remain in restricted areas.


  • LogChestOwnership: Enables logging of who owns each chest. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


World Settings


  • MaxAllowedBirds: Maximum number of birds allowed to spawn in the world.


  • MaxAllowedCharacters: Maximum number of all characters (players, NPCs, etc.). -1 means unlimited.


  • MaxAllowedPuppets: Controls the max number of puppets (zombies) on the map.


  • MaxAllowedAnimals: Sets the limit for animal spawns.


  • MaxAllowedNPCs: Maximum number of non-player characters that can exist at once.


  • EncounterBaseCharacterAmountMultiplier: Base number of characters in encounters.


  • EncounterExtraCharacterPerPlayerMultiplier: Adds extra characters per player involved.

  • AllowSquadmateRespawn: Allows players to respawn near squadmates. Set 0 to disable the setting, and 1 to enable the setting.


  • RandomRespawnPrice: Cost in fame points or currency to respawn at a random location.


  • SectorRespawnPrice: Cost to respawn in a chosen sector.


  • ShelterRespawnPrice: Cost to respawn at a shelter.


  • SquadRespawnPrice: Cost to respawn at a squadmate’s location.


  • RandomRespawnInitialTime / SectorRespawnInitialTime / ShelterRespawnInitialTime / SquadRespawnInitialTime: Time delays before each type of respawn becomes available.
