How To Make A Private Terraria Server

Creating a private Terraria server is the perfect way to play with a select group of friends without interruptions or random players joining in. It gives you full control over who can access your world, making it ideal for collaborative builds, close-knit adventures, or just a quieter gameplay experience. Plus, setup is easier than you might think.


In this guide, we'll show you how to make a private Terraria server to privately play on your dedicated Terraria server and not have a massive number of players on your dedicated server. It is easy since you just need to add a command line in one of the config folders.


Making A Terraria Server Private


To make a Terraria server private:



  • Head over to the Files tab


  • Locate serverconfig.txt in your server files


  • Find the line password=. If you don't have that line, add a line and type password=<password> as shown in the example below



  • Click on Save Content to save the configuration file


  • Now, each time a player tries to connect to the server, after inserting the IP address, they will be asked for the password you set in the main menu before joining the server



  • You can now host and play your game world server privately
