How To Transfer A Valheim World Save
Want to move your Valheim world to another computer or server? Whether you're upgrading to dedicated hosting or just sharing progress with a friend, transferring a Valheim world is easier than it sounds. All your progress: builds, terrain changes, and world data, is saved in a small set of files you can copy and paste.
In this guide, we'll show you how to transfer Valheim world to dedicated server. This is very easy since Valheim saves are usually stored in their default location on your computer files. Even when a new world is created, you will still find the files in the exact location.
Finding Your Existing Valheim World Save On Your Computer
To find an existing Valheim world on your computer:
- You will need to find the world file location
- On your keyboard, use \`Windows + R\` and open the following directory: \`%AppData%\\..\\LocalLow\\IronGate\\Valheim\\worlds_local\`
- Once you see both of the .fwl & .db files. These are the world files
Downloading A Valheim Cloud Save From Xbox or Steam
To download a Valheim world cloud save to your computer:
- Open Valheim
- In the Select Character screen, click on Manager Saves
- Navigate to the Worlds tab
- Choose the desired world, and click on the Move to local button
- It will now be moved to your local files, which are: \`%AppData%\\..\\LocalLow\\IronGate\\Valheim\\worlds_local\`
- You can download the .fwl & .db files, which are your existing world save files
Uploading Your Valheim World To A Game Valheim Server
To upload a Valheim world to a game server:
- Open your game panel here
- Navigate to the Files tab
- Head over to the following directory: \`/home/container/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local\`
- Upload the .fwl & .db files from your computer
- In the Startup tab, change the "World Name" field to the name of your world. You'll need to make it the same name in the file name exactly.
- Start the server and you're ready to go!
Importing A Valheim World From Another Game Server
To import a Valheim world from another game server:
- Open FileZilla
- Head over to the following directory on your server: \`/home/container/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local\`
- Connect to your service using FileZilla, and upload the .db & .fwl world files to your computer
- Now, connect FileZilla with your other service, and upload the .db & .fwl files to the other server files, in the following directory: \`/home/container/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local\`
